My feeling was I got a touch - Carey on review reprieve.

Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey stated he thought he had edged the ball when he was overturned on DRS during day one of the 3rd Ashes series Test against England.

After surviving on 72, Carey proceeded to score a superb 106 to guide the hosts reach 326-8 at the close in Adelaide.

The Key Moment

Australia were 245 for 6 when Carey went for a cut to the bowling of Josh Tongue.

England appealed confidently, certain they had detected an nick, but umpire Ahsan Raza was unmoved.

Following captain Ben Stokes opted to review the decision, the footage reviewed by TV umpire Chris Gaffaney displayed a significant spike although this appeared prior to the ball had passed the bat.

Gaffaney added he believed there was a clearance between the bat and the ball.

Therefore, Carey was given not out.

"I felt a little noise as the ball went past," stated Carey.

"Being given out would have prompted a review, though not a confident one. It made a convincing sound near the bat."

Technology Debate

Discussion has swirled about 'the sound wave technology' throughout the Ashes contest after a number of dubious calls.

England's bowling coach David Saker indicated the touring side may escalate this most recent incident to a higher level with match referee Jeff Crowe.

"We haven't acted yet, but following today's events, that could change," Saker said.

"There have been concerns about it for the whole series. The focus should be on cricket, not technology failures. It is what it is."

A Special Hundred

His hundred was his maiden in Test cricket against England.

It was also an poignant moment for Carey, whose dad died in September. His spouse was crying in the crowd as the batter celebrated by glancing upward.

"To make a hundred here in front of home fans and family was special," said Carey.

"You can probably understand my glance skyward. I'm fighting back the tears. It was a fantastic feeling."

History of Controversy

This isn't Carey's first brush with Ashes drama.

He was the wicketkeeper who famously dismissed Jonny Bairstow at Lord's Cricket Ground in the 2023 Ashes series, which created a intense final day.

Regarding the overturned decision he continued: "The sound wave didn't match up. That's how the game works; fortune plays a part."

"Maybe it went my way."
