The former Liverpool manager says a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.

The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign which brought continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, currently occupies positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and as an advisor to Germany's league body.

Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

They secured the Premier League last season, though countless followers who adore the manager would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I will never coach any other side in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. It's plausible.”

“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine later on, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I can just see what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Questioned regarding the specific conditions must arise to draw him back to management, he confessed he isn't eager for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to interviews repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.

“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games thus frequently great spirits at the club. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”

Praise for His Successor

He spoke highly of the current boss, crediting him for the adjustments which secured the championship last term. Liverpool have lost a string of losses across various tournaments following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the idea that it might signal the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”

Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota

He shared movingly about the death of Jota, a player he signed in 2020, and its impact for the team. Jota was killed in a road accident with his brother this past summer.

“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about the player himself, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the team environment without him in it. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. Not a single person will ever use it as an excuse though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it on a personal level is not easy. Overwhelming.”
